Start with the symptom.

These checks resolve the most common local issues without touching your profile. Portable-save recovery is deliberately isolated below.

Launch and display

The game does not open, shows a black screen, or uses the wrong display mode.

  1. Restart Steam and verify the integrity of the installed game files.
  2. Update your graphics driver, then launch BLACK STACK again.
  3. If the game opens, use SYSTEM CONFIG to change display mode or reduce post-processing.

Audio routing

Music or effects are missing, muted, distorted, or using the wrong output device.

  1. Confirm the correct Windows or macOS output device before launching.
  2. Open SYSTEM CONFIG and check the separate MUSIC and SOUND levels.
  3. Reconnect Bluetooth or USB hardware, then restart BLACK STACK.

Save recovery

A run or profile appears missing after a crash, interrupted write, or build update.

  1. Close BLACK STACK before changing any save file.
  2. Copy the entire game folder and every save copy somewhere safe.
  3. Use the recovery manifest below. Do not delete the backup or swap files.

Cinematics

A cinematic stutters, displays visual corruption, or does not advance.

  1. Verify the installed files and update your graphics driver.
  2. Use the on-screen skip prompt if playback remains unstable.
  3. Include the cinematic name and your GPU model in a support report.

Your previous version may still exist.

Exported desktop builds keep an atomic save family beside the game. If that location is read-only, BLACK STACK safely falls back to the operating system's Godot player-data directory.

  1. Step 1

    Quarantine

    Close the game and Steam. Copy the whole BLACK STACK folder somewhere safe before touching any recovery file.

  2. Step 2

    Inspect

    Preserve every candidate. Record modification times before changing names or replacing the active save.

  3. Step 3

    Escalate

    If automatic recovery fails, send the build version and exact failure sequence. Do not publish your save in a public thread.
